It seems the script contains a command that you are not using when you
do it by hand. Or maybe the script tries to save the file in a different
directory than the one you download it to by hand. If you can't figure
this out by looking at the script yourself, you can send a copy of the
script to kermit-support@columbia.edu, and we'll take a look at it.
